Kim Painter
Rock Hill, South Carolina
Kim spent her early years exploring landscapes – whether it was beautifully tended gardens, pecan groves or running creeks – in the Piedmont region of the Carolinas. From a young age Kim had interest in all arts. During her Junior High and High School years, she would send her interior designer aunt sketches and watercolors who in turn would frame and sell for her.
Kim has a degree in Graphic Design and worked in various corporate positions from mid ’80’s until 2015 when she decided to focus her energy full time on the arts. She studied fibers, acrylics, stained glass and watercolors but after seeing and admiring several Tonal artist’s oil work, Kim studied and continues to work in a tonalist style for most of her landscapes and waterscapes. She spent 7 years in the Low Country of South Carolina admiring the copious creeks and salt marshes in the region, providing much inspiration for her atmospheric, contemplative work.

Kim is based again in the familiar rolling hills of the Piedmont area just outside Charlotte, North Carolina. She continues to be influenced by the beauty in everyday life. For Kim, working intuitively in a variety of materials allows for play and creativity. Kim is utilizing her predilection for exploration of mediums, substrates and formats to visually communicate, whether in tonal, abstracted or tactile biomorphic styles.
