Julia Chandler Lawing
Concord, North Carolina

Julia Chandler Lawing synchronizes color and brushstroke to
capture the essence of a moment and evoke emotion.
Born in Atlanta, Julia moved to St. Simons Island at age 12. Growing up on the small barrier island in Georgia’s Golden Isles instilled a deep appreciation for nature, light, and the wetland landscape.
The subjects in Julia's work come from her memories of rest and play in both new and familiar places. Intimate, happy occasions—beach campfires, lighthouse hikes, lobster boils and sunset sails—make appearances in her sketchbook and on her easel. Her vibrant oil paintings have been called "extravagantly beautiful, spiritual and inspiring."

Julia earned a BA in Journalism at The University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill (’90), with a minor in art. Exploring various mediums throughout the years, Julia began oil painting at age 45 and knew she had found her calling.
Julia’s work is featured in private collections across the US and Canada, and corporate collections including Towne Bank and Georgia State University College of Law. Her paintings have appeared in public art installations on billboards, window clings, and walls.
When not traveling or painting on location, Julia creates in her studio in downtown Concord.
